The Transcending Chopin live shows by the StarkLinnemann Quartet are constructed around two late works by Chopin: Piano Sonata opus 58 and Cello Sonata opus 65. Chopin’s compositions are completely re-composed into the present time.  Form principles of both Sonatas are strictly observed and coexist with original inventions by the StarkLinnemann Quartet. By combining Chopin’s music with jazz and elements of world music a distinctive sonic experience is created.

In their version of Chopin’s Cello Sonata the cello part is not played by a cellist but by two instrumentalists. A special role has been reserved for saxophonist Iman Spaargaren and double bass player Maciej Domaradzki. The string sound of the double bass evokes atmospheres of a classical chamber music concert, while the tough, powerful sound of the tenor sax gives the music an unmistakably modern jazz sound.

The music is at the heart of this show: After a short introduction the Trio and the Quartet perform the Piano Sonata and the Cello Sonata in succession with only a short pause between the individual movements. The stage lights beautifully illuminate the musicians so the audience can feel enchanted by a continuous stream of universal crossover music at the highest possible level.
